Tri-State Tollway (I-294/I-94/I-80)
Off-peak and overnight closures are scheduled on the South and North Tri-State Tollway for erosion control work, crossroad bridge work and a traffic shift.
August 27 – Overnight Closures and Traffic Shift
- One northbound lane will close at 8 p.m. tonight, August 27, between Stearns School Road and the Waukegan Toll Plaza for pavement marking operations in advance of a traffic shift. All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m. on Thursday, August 28. At that time, one northbound Local Lane will be shifted onto new pavement on the right shoulder as work continues to rebuild and widen the northbound lanes. Two Express Lanes remain in a counterflow configuration.
- One southbound lane from the Wisconsin state line to Stearns School Road will close at 8 p.m. for barrier wall work. The lane will reopen at 5 a.m. on Thursday, August 28.
- Two lanes in each direction between 87th Street and Roberts Road will close at 10 p.m. tonight, August 27, for bridge work. All lanes will reopen at 2 a.m. on Thursday, August 28.
August 28 – Off-Peak and Overnight Closures
- One lane in each direction between Stearns School Road and Wadsworth Road will be closed from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday, August 28, for barrier wall relocation work. One southbound lane will close at 8 p.m. and reopen at 5 a.m. on Friday, August 28.
- One southbound lane will close from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Thursday, August 28, between Sanders Road and Lake Cook Road for a concrete pour.
- The southbound Express Lane will close at 8 p.m. on Thursday, August 28, between Lake Cook Road and Dempster Street for bridge work at the Milwaukee Avenue Bridge. The lane will reopen by 5 a.m. on Friday, August 29.
- One southbound lane will close at 9 p.m. on Thursday, August 28, between the Touhy Toll Plaza and Des Plaines River Road for pavement striping work. A second lane will close at midnight. All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m. on Friday, August 29.
Reagan Memorial Tollway (I-88)
Lane closures are scheduled on the I-88 Rebuild & Widen Projects between York Road and Washington Street and the Aurora Toll Plaza and Orchard Road.
August 28 – Overnight Traffic Shift and Lane Closures
- Overnight closures are scheduled on Thursday, August 28, for a traffic shift between the Veterans Memorial Tollway (I-355) ramps and Naperville Road. One westbound lane will close at 8 p.m. for pavement striping work in advance of the traffic shift. The lane will reopen by 5 a.m. on Friday, August 29. At that time, the two westbound Local Lanes will be shifted from the median shoulder and left lane to the newly constructed right shoulder and right lane. The Express Lane will remain in the same location on the eastbound side of the road. A similar traffic shift is already in place between Naperville Road and Washington Street.
- The eastbound Open Road Tolling (ORT) lanes will close at 8 p.m. on Thursday, August 28, for overhead electrical work. All three cash toll booths will remain open on the cash side of the plaza. The ORT lanes will reopen by 5 a.m. on Friday, August 29.
- One westbound lane between IL Route 59 and Eola Road will close at 8 p.m. on Thursday, August 28, for pavement repair work. A second lane will close at 10 p.m. All lanes will reopen at 5 a.m. on Friday, August 29.
Jane Addams Memorial Tollway (I-90)
Overnight closures are scheduled for pavement repair work.
August 27 – 28 – Overnight Closures
- One lane in each direction between Garden Prairie Road and Mill Road will close at 8 p.m. tonight, August 27, for pavement repair work. All lanes will reopen by 9 a.m. on Thursday, August 28. The same closures are planned on Thursday, August 28. All lanes will reopen at 7 a.m. on Friday, August 29.
- One westbound lane will close at 7 p.m. tonight, August 27, between I-190 and I-294 for bridge work. A second lane will close at 11 p.m. All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m. on Thursday, August 28. The same closure is planned on Thursday night, August 28, following the same schedule.
- The westbound I-PASS Only lane in the cash side of the Devon Toll Plaza will close from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 28, for overhead canopy work.
Veterans Memorial Tollway (I-355)
Overnight and off-peak closures are scheduled for pavement repair work and for the Resurface and Widen Project between 75th Street and I-88.
August 27 – Overnight Closures
- One southbound lane between 75th Street and the I-55 Interchange will close at 8 p.m. tonight, August 27, for pavement repair work. A second lane will close at 10 p.m. All lanes will reopen at 5 a.m. on Thursday, August 28.
- One northbound lane between 63rd Street and Maple Avenue will close at midnight tonight, August 27, for barrier wall work and pavement striping. The lane will reopen at 5 a.m. on Thursday, August 28. One southbound lane between Ogden Avenue and 71st Street will close at midnight on Thursday, August 28. The lane will reopen at noon on Friday, August 29.
Work Zone Safety
A 45 m.p.h. speed limit is in effect 24/7 in all construction zones, whether or not workers are present. Drivers should continue to watch for changing traffic patterns and use caution, especially when workers are present. Illinois State Police have zero tolerance for drivers speeding in work zones. The minimum penalty for speeding in a work zone is $375. Posted signs advise motorists of a $10,000 fine and 14-year jail sentence for hitting a roadway worker. Keep Workers Alive – Drive 45.
