on Jane Addams Memorial Tollway (I-90)
Long-Term Closures Scheduled for Westbound Exit and Entrance Ramps; Detours Posted
DOWNERS GROVE, Ill. – Repair work on the Jane Addams Memorial Tollway (I-90) bridge over IL Route 31 in Elgin is scheduled to begin next week and continue through the fall, requiring long-term closures of several entrance and exit ramps. The project will begin with the closure of the exit ramp from westbound I-90 to southbound IL Route 31 and the entrance ramp from northbound IL Route 31 to westbound I-90. Both ramps will close for approximately three weeks and detours will be posted.
The ramp closures are scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. on Monday, September 29, and will be in place through late October for bridge repair work on I-90 over IL Route 31. In addition, westbound Tollway traffic will be shifted to the left to accommodate the bridge work while keeping three mainline travel lanes open.
The detour for westbound I-90 traffic exiting to southbound IL Route 31 directs traffic to continue west and exit at Randall Road, south on Randall Road to Big Timber Road, and east on Big Timber Road to reach southbound IL Route 31. The detour for northbound IL Route 31 traffic wanting to enter westbound I-90 directs traffic west on Big Timber Road to Randall Road and north on Randall Road to reach the westbound entrance ramp to I-90 .
Additional ramp closures at the IL Route 31 Interchange will be scheduled in late October for the ramp carrying eastbound I-90 traffic to northbound IL Route 31 and the ramp carrying southbound IL Route 31 traffic to eastbound I-90. Detours will be posted.
Work Zone Safety
A 45 m.p.h. speed limit is in effect 24/7 in all construction zones, whether or not workers are present. Drivers should continue to watch for changing traffic patterns and use caution, especially when workers are present. Illinois State Police have zero tolerance for drivers speeding in work zones. The minimum penalty for speeding in a work zone is $375. Posted signs advise motorists of a $10,000 fine and 14-year jail sentence for hitting a roadway worker. Keep Workers Alive – Drive 45.
