Recognizing the tremendous need for roadway, infrastructure and congestion-relief projects throughout Illinois, the Illinois Tollway has worked with numerous partners in developing three TIGER grant applications to ensure Illinois is well represented when Federal officials review the hundreds of TIGER applications submitted from states and localities throughout the nation. Listed below, the Tri-State (I-294)/I-57 interchange application provides regional improvement to over-the-road freight movement, the 511 Travel Information project enhances mobility, safety and security for the regions drivers and the Pace partnership connects communities to job-centers with a low-cost and environmentally responsible transit option.

511 Travel Information System
Recognizing the national importance of coordinated travel information and traffic management in the Midwest, Illinois Tollway is submitting a TIGER Grant application for funding to fully integrate traffic management centers across the region and provide real-time travel information to commercial users, commuters, and leisure travelers via a new statewide 511 Travel Information System. The Tollway has worked with state, regional and federal transportation officials, leaders from E911 and cellular telecommunications communities and Illinois legislators to develop this new statewide concept.

Tri-State Tollway (I-294)/I-57 Interchange
The Illinois Tollway is submitting a TIGER Grant application for funding to construct the proposed interchange between the South Tri-State Tollway (I-294) and I-57 to provide an interstate-to-interstate linkage where none currently exists, relieve congestion on local routes, and enhance economic development of the region. The Tollway has worked closely with IDOT, local officials, Illinois legislators and congressional representatives to highlight the need for this new interchange.

Pace/Tollway Express Bus Network
Pace and the Illinois Tollway are working in partnership to submit a TIGER Grant application for funding to develop an Express Bus Network with stations and park-&-ride lots at or near several interchanges and oases along Tri-State Tollway (I-294/I-80) between the Chicago Southland Lincoln Oasis and the Oak Brook and O’Hare/Rosemont areas. As the roadway manager, the Tollway will submit the application, however PACE is the lead contact and recipient of all TIGER funds.
