In 2005 the Illinois Tollway launched a $6.3 billion Congestion-Relief Program - Open Roads for a Faster Future.
Through the $6.3 billion program for 2005-2016 the Illinois Tollway has already:
- reduced travel times by converting the system to Open Road Tolling and
- completed construction of the long-awaited south extension of I-355 into Will County
Work to complete the majority of the remaining projects is more than halfway through including:
- rebuilding/restoring the majority of the system and
- adding lanes to reduce congestion.
To learn more about Open Roads for a Faster Future, review our Program Summary Document and our 2009 Congestion-Relief Construction Map.
The Program Summary Document contains an Executive Summary, Project List, and Project Summaries. This is the basis for the Tollway's multi-billion dollar Congestion-Relief Program which has evolved since 2004.
