The Illinois Tollway has completed the reconstruction and reconfiguration of the Cherry Valley Interchange at I-90/I-39 on the Jane Addams Memorial Tollway (I-90). This project is part of the Tollway's Congestion-Relief Program.
Update – New Westbound I-90 Ramp to Southbound I-39 Now Open
The final piece of the reconstruction and reconfiguration of the Cherry Valley Interchange is complete as the new westbound I-90 ramp to southbound I-39 is now open. Traffic no longer needs to use the Irene Road exit ramp detour to access southbound I-39 and U.S. 20. However, the ramp will remain open providing drivers access to Irene Road from westbound I-90; there is no entrance ramp at this location.

Minimizing Impact to Reduce Delays
Daytime lane closures were avoided whenever possible with the majority of lane closures restricted to overnight hours and occasional daytime closures during off-peak periods. While these are the typical lane closures,
please see our
Daily Lane Closures for specific closures per project.

Work Zone Safety
Construction zone speed limits are in effect in all construction zones 24/7 and drivers should continue to watch for changing traffic patterns and use caution, especially when workers are present. Remember to drive safely in work zones and abide by the 45 m .p.h. speed limit on the mainline.

Purpose – Pertinent Details on Why and How
The Illinois Tollway eliminated collection of tolls southbound at the interchange in 2003 and northbound in 2004 and made the commitment to rebuild the Cherry Valley Interchange at I-90/I-39 to allow faster, safer, and more efficient travel through an area that has historically been known for its traffic congestion. Improvements to this interchange and the I-39/I-90 corridor support existing and future economic development along this critical bi-state Interstate as well as provide congestion relief and reduce travel times. .
