Project Status
The Illinois Tollway administered the Phase I environmental phase of the project and IDOT is currently administering the Phase II design phase of the project. It has not yet been determined which agency will lead the construction phase of the project; however, it will likely be a joint effort by the Illinois Tollway and IDOT.

Proposed Interchange Design
The proposed improvements include an interchange that provides for six of the eight potential movements between I-294 and I-57; including a partial interchange at I-294 and 147th Street.
Proposed Improvements include:
- Access from northbound I-294 to northbound I-57
- Access from southbound I-294 to northbound and southbound I-57
- Access from northbound I-57 to northbound I-294
- Access from southbound I-57 to northbound and southbound I-294
- Access from southbound I-294 to 147th Street
- Access from northbound I-294 to 147th Street
- Access to and from I-57 and 147th Street via a collector-distributor road

Project Cost
The current construction cost estimate for the I-294/I-57 Interchange is $505 million. Construction is anticipated to be funded 10 percent from the Illinois Tollway, 10 percent from IDOT, and 80 percent from federal funds. The Illinois Tollway has committed $46.5 million for the construction of the Interchange and IDOT has committed their funding when federal funding is identified.

Purpose
The purpose of the proposed interchange between the Tri-State Tollway (I-294) and I-57 is to provide a linkage between two interstates, relieve congestion on local routes, enhance economic development of the region, and improve overall transportation throughout the region.
