06/19/2009 Long-Term Traffic Shifts Scheduled This Weekend for Construction of New Eola Road Interchange on Reagan Memorial Tollway (I-88)
Lane Reduction on Diehl Road and I-88 Mainline Traffic Shifts Scheduled
DOWNERS GROVE, Ill. – The Illinois Tollway will shift eastbound mainline traffic on the Reagan Memorial Tollway (I-88) on Saturday, June 20, and westbound mainline traffic on Tuesday, June 23, as part of the project to construct a new Eola Road Interchange. One lane will close in each direction on Diehl Road between Eola Road and White Oak Circle on Thursday, June 25, as work begins to resurface and widen Diehl Road to accommodate the new interchange. The new interchange, scheduled for completion this year, is being constructed in coordination with the City of Aurora and Du Page County to help reduce congestion on the local road network and is part of the Illinois Tollway’s $6.3 billion Congestion-Relief Program.

Traffic Shift on Mainline I-88 Starts on Saturday, June 20

Eastbound traffic on I-88 between Farnsworth Avenue and EJ&E Railroad will be shifted to the left overnight on Saturday, June 20, to accommodate ramp construction on the right. Westbound traffic will be shifted overnight on Tuesday, June 23. Three lanes of traffic will be maintained on the median shoulder and two left lanes in both directions. Traffic will remain in this configuration through fall.

Traffic Shift on Diehl Road on Thursday, June 25

Traffic on Diehl Road between Eola Road and White Oak Circle will be reduced to one lane in each direction and shifted onto the eastbound side of the road on Thursday, June 25. The westbound side of the road is being resurfaced and widened to add a third lane between Eola Road and the new I-88 ramp. This configuration will be in place through the end of summer.

Part of Tollway’s Congestion-Relief Program

Construction of the Eola Road Interchange on the Reagan Memorial Tollway (I-88) is part of the Tollway’s $6.3 billion Congestion-Relief Program, Open Roads for a Faster Future, which will reduce travel times by rebuilding/restoring 90 percent of the system, widening/adding lanes to many miles of existing roads, converting 20 mainline toll plazas to barrier-free Open Road Tolling, and extending I-355 south to I-80 in Will County.
