08/28/2009 Temporary Local Access Ramp Lake Forest Business Park to Northbound Tri-State Tollway (I-94) to Close August 29
Design Work Underway for Parking Lot Expansion for Commercial Vehicles
DOWNERS GROVE, Ill. – The temporary local access ramp connecting a Lake Forest business park to the northbound Tri-State Tollway (I-94) is scheduled to close on Saturday, August 29, now that improvements to the nearby IL Route 60/Townline Road and overpass have been completed by the Illinois Department of Transportation and the Illinois Tollway. Electronic message boards and signs have been posted in advance to alert drivers to the upcoming closure.

The Illinois Tollway entered into an agreement with the City of Lake Forest in 2007 to allow temporary access from the nearby Conway Business Park to the adjacent Lake Forest Oasis northbound I-94 entrance ramp so more than 1,000 daily commuters could bypass the IL Route 60/Townline Road Bridge reconstruction project and improvements.

As of Saturday, August 29, access to the ramp will be prohibited by the placement of temporary barrier wall at the access point from the Conway Business Park. The temporary ramp structure will be removed. The City of Lake Forest agreed to fund both cost of construction and demolition of the temporary access ramp as a way to reduce traffic traveling through the IL Route 60 construction zone and to improve safety during construction.

Lake Forest Oasis Truck Parking Expansion Plans Underway

In addition to covering costs associated with the temporary ramp, the agreement with Lake Forest also provides the Illinois Tollway with a permanent easement to a parcel of land adjacent to the Lake Forest Oasis property for truck parking expansion. The Tollway is in coordination with trucking organizations and local officials and design work is underway to double available truck parking.

The Tollway also is working to develop a pilot program to provide a long-term parking option for commercial vehicles that offers environmentally friendly, no-idle technology to allow trucks to shut down engines while still providing power to the cab for heat, air and electrical usage.
