ILLINOIS STATE POLICE ANNOUNCE “COMBINED CORRIDOR ENFORCEMENT” Downers Grove, IL - Captain John Jesernik, District 15 Commander, announced today that the Illinois State Police will begin working “Combined Corridor Enforcement” details to incorporate the coordinated use of Illinois State Police Troopers from District 2, District 15 and District Chicago during the months of January and February. This joint effort of Troopers and Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Officers will concentrate their enforcement efforts on the “Fatal Five” (Speed, Seatbelt, DUI, Following too Closely, and Improper Lane Usage) in conjoined areas of the Chicagoland Interstate system. The officers and areas have been chosen to reduce the number of crashes as vehicles of all types approach, drive on, and exit from the interchange ramps. By increasing enforcement efforts, the number of rollover crashes can be reduced by drivers reducing their speeds upon approach to a ramp as well as yielding properly to traffic as a driver enters the main roadway from a ramp. These details will be set up to increase the presence of Troopers in the following areas:
“We feel these combined effort details will create a safer environment for those traveling multiple interstate systems where congestion and traffic safety may be a concern” stated Captain Jesernik. Following the details, electronic message signs will be posted in the areas to inform drivers of the number of citations issued as a result of the Troopers’ enforcement efforts. | ||
