Toll Rates

Tolls for trucks and cars are calculated by distance traveled. The foundation is a standard per mile charge for each road. Therefore, rates are higher when plazas are further apart.

Toll Rates Vary By Plaza

  • The average plaza rate for large trucks is about $3.50 peak/$2.65 off-peak
  • The plazas that carry 73 percent of truck traffic have rates of $4 for large trucks (medium $2.25/small $1.50) or less.
  • While toll rates exceed the typical toll plaza at six ramp plazas, toll rates are lower than the typical mainline plaza rate at 34 ramp toll plazas and go as low as $1.50 for large trucks

Using I-PASS Transponders

E-ZPass Customers:

  • E-ZPass is compatible with the Chicago Skyway and the Illinois Tollway.

*I-PASS is not accepted at airport parking lots nor any other non-roadway facilities that accept E-ZPass.

i-Zoom Customers:

Your i-Zoom is accepted on the Illinois Tollway, Chicago Skyway and anywhere E-ZPass is accepted.

Trucks Save Money with I-PASS

I-PASS reduces travel times and saves money.

  • Commercial vehicle operators who currently use I-PASS are reducing their travel time by up to 20 minutes for a round trip (on I-294 between Indiana and Wisconsin as an example).
  • By spending less time on the road in traffic, truckers can spend less on fueling and operating their rigs.
  • Truckers save $25 for every 15-minute reduction in trip time (Midwest Truckers Association). For example, truckers can save as much as $333 per month if they take 10 round trips using I-PASS on the full length of the Tri-State Tollway (I-94/294).
  • Savings due to less wear and tear on vehicles (engines, tires etc.) caused by to harsh braking and acceleration.
