Tollway Takes Time to Recognize Veterans

The Illinois Tollway salutes the military veterans who help fill our ranks and bring a wealth of experience, dedication and service to our agency and our customers.
The Tollway is proud to count more than 50 military veterans among its full-time staff and relies on the skills and knowledge they began developing during their military careers to help the agency operate efficiently and safely.
“We are honored to count so many military veterans as members of our team and our Tollway family,” said Illinois Tollway Executive Director José Alvarez. “We thank them—and all veterans for their service—and are grateful that the experience and skills they bring with them from their military careers makes our agency stronger.”
To commemorate Veterans Day, the Tollway asked some of the veterans who work at the agency to talk about their military careers and describe the lessons and skills they gained from their service
A common theme was that military service helped strengthen their sense of duty and their dedication to completing the jobs assigned to them, while learning to quickly adapt to new situations and circumstances - and of gaining self-confidence as they learned how to succeed under those conditions.
