Road Trip this Holiday Season?

Keeping an I-PASS transponder in your vehicle and making sure it's properly mounted will ensure successful toll payments on the Illinois Tollway system and in other states that accept I-PASS, including Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio and 12 other states that are part of the E-ZPass network.

How do I know my transponder is working?

There are several ways to test your transponder to make sure it is working.

  1. Sign on to your account and look for any 'vToll' postings - vToll postings indicate your transponder is not functioning properly
  2. Drive through a ramp plaza, look for the blue light or the green "Toll Paid" light on the left
  3. Drive through a manned toll plaza cash lane - the toll collector can confirm if the transponder is working

Truck/Trailer Rates Increase on January 1

Toll rate increases for commercial trucks, buses, recreational vehicles and vehicles pulling trailers go into effect January 1, 2018. Passenger vehicle toll rates will remain the same.

The 2018 toll rates for trucks and trailers are based on the Consumer Price Index. As a result, those rates will increase by 1.6 percent in 2018.

2018 toll rates are posted at all toll plazas across the Tollway system, as well as on the Tollway's website.

Preparation is Key: Winter Weather - Get It Together

Winter weather can cause dangerous driving conditions.

Tips to get you home safe

  • Slow down and change lanes safely when you see any vehicle with flashing lights
  • Build extra time into your schedule
  • Adjust your speed and increase the distance between you and the vehicle ahead
  • Snow plows often work in tandem, so give them room to plow
  • Follow Tollway Trip Tweets to get real-time roadway incident information
  • Call *999 for roadside assistance

Did you know...
During snow/ice storms our snow crew typically makes up to 8 complete passes of the Tollway in a 12-hours shift to de-ice and plow. Each pass is 2,259 lane miles - the equivalent of driving from Chicago to San Francisco.

And the Winner Is...

Congratulations to the Tollway Map Art Contest winner Lindley Wiesner from Lake Forest High School! As part of the 2018 theme, Celebrating the Illinois Bicentennial, high school art students submitted artwork focused on what makes them #IllinoisProud.

Artwork created by Lindley will be featured on the cover of the Tollway's 2018 map.
