Why I-PASS Assist?
Due to up-front costs and ongoing financial responsibilities required of customers to both obtain and keep I-PASS accounts in good standing, too often it is those who can least afford it who are unable to obtain or retain these benefits.
It is for this reason, the Illinois Tollway expanded the Tollway’s I-PASS Assist program, to enable more customers to attain and retain the benefits of I-PASS, while implementing additional measures intended to mitigate the disparate impact that transportation costs have on low income households.
How Does It Work?
In partnership with the Illinois Department of Revenue and the Illinois Department of Human Services, the Illinois Tollway is able to verify the eligibility of households via a secure web form to determine if household income falls below the required threshold or if households are currently participating in cash and food assistance programs.
Upon completion of the form, the customer is immediately notified through email if they qualify for the program. Once approved for an I-PASS Assist account, an I-PASS will be shipped for free. Upon receipt of the I-PASS, customers must add funds to activate the account. The Tollway requires minimal costs to maintain an I-PASS Assist account to help people have a better chance of retaining the benefits of I-PASS!
