Roadway, Bridge and Ramp Repairs
Project Overview
The Illinois Tollway has scheduled repair work along the Jane Addams Memorial Tollway (I-90) in 2024 and 2025. This work includes pavement repairs between Rockton Road and the Kishwaukee River Bridge, including bridge repairs on Rockton Road and Belvidere Road over I-90, and between Irene Road and Des Plaines River Road, including ramp repairs at the Irene Road and at the Genoa Road Interchange.
Additional work includes barrier and median wall repairs; drainage and fiber optic improvements; earthwork; and roadway camera and ramp queue detection installation, as well as sanitary sewer construction at Arlington Heights Road.
This work is scheduled to begin in spring 2024 and be completed in 2025.

Customer Impacts
Lane closures and traffic shifts are necessary to provide a work zone and safely accommodate construction.
Local road lane closures and traffic shifts will also be needed on Belvidere Road and Rockton Road for work on those local crossroad bridges.
Electronic message signs and construction signage will be put in place in advance to alert drivers to scheduled lane closures, traffic patterns and work zone speed limits.
In 2024, overnight ramp closures and detours will be needed on the two ramps connecting westbound I-90 to Genoa Road and the ramp connecting eastbound I-90 to Genoa Road.
Purpose
Repair work will provide customers an improved driving experience and extend the life of the roadway. This work is part of the Tollway’s 16-year, $15 billion capital program, Move Illinois: The Illinois Tollway Driving the Future.
The project is being coordinated with the Illinois Department of Transportation, Boone County, Winnebago County and local communities, as well as local fire and police departments.
Sustainability
The Tollway is committed to building green and minimizing the environmental impact of construction by reducing, recycling and reusing materials. In addition to reducing the cost of this work, reuse of these materials reduces the need for virgin asphalt materials and reduces energy consumption, greenhouse gases and the volume of material that would otherwise be sent to landfills.
Work Zone Safety
The Illinois Tollway is committed to ensuring that the Jane Addams Memorial Tollway (I-90) remains safe for both drivers and workers during construction, which is part of the agency’s overall commitment to roadway safety.
Work zone speed limits are in effect in all construction zones 24/7 and drivers should continue to watch for changing traffic patterns and use caution, especially when workers are present.
