Reagan Memorial Tollway (I-88)
The Illinois Tollway is rebuilding and widening the Reagan Memorial Tollway (I-88), between I-290 and York Road in Oak Brook. The two-year project also includes rebuilding and widening the York Road Bridge, repairing and widening of the I-88 bridges over Roosevelt Road, improvements on the ramps connecting I-88 and the Tri-State Tollway (I-294) and noisewall construction adjacent to residential areas.
In 2019, work includes the reconstruction of the eastbound lanes, as well as installation of new noisewall and lighting upgrades. Repair work is also scheduled to continue on the bridges carrying I-88 over Roosevelt Road. The project is scheduled for completion by the end of 2019.
In addition, repair work is scheduled to begin this year on two additional ramps at the Tri-State Tollway (I-294) Interchange.
Construction Update (10/1/19)
Between I-290 and York Road, three lanes of traffic are open in the eastbound direction. One lane between York Road and I-290 on the eastbound side of the roadway shifted to the left to allow for a workzone on the right. Two eastbound lanes are shifted onto the westbound side of the road. Those traveling in the left lane on the westbound side will be in an express lane to eastbound I-290.
All westbound traffic shifted to the right and at least two lanes of traffic are available to customers.
Traffic is scheduled to remain in this configuration into fall.
On the ramp connecting northbound I-294 to westbound I-88, two lanes of traffic on the ramp is shifted to the left onto temporary pavement to allow for a work zone on the right. Additional traffic shifts will be needed later this year to complete the work.
On the ramp connecting eastbound I-88 to southbound I-294, two lanes of traffic are split with a work zone in the middle. Traffic exiting to York Road will need to stay to the right. Traffic will be able to access I-294 from both lanes.
Please check the Daily Construction Alert for up-to-date closure information.
Electronic message signs and construction signage will be put in place in advance to alert drivers to new traffic patterns.
On I-88, traffic shifts, including a counterflow, will be required in 2019.
Access to Mannheim Road from eastbound I-88 will also be reduced during construction.
Pavement reconstruction will provide customers increased traffic capacity, improve the overall driving experience, and extend the life of the roadway.
The Tollway is committed to "Building Green" and minimizing the environmental impact of construction by reducing, recycling and reusing materials.
Work Zone Safety
The Illinois Tollway is committed to ensuring that the Reagan Memorial Tollway (I-88) remains safe for both drivers and workers during construction, which is part of the agency’s overall commitment to roadway safety.
A 45 mph work zone speed limit will be in effect on I-88 throughout the reconstruction project. A 35 mph work zone speed limit will be in effect on York Road.
