Windsor Drive Bridge Project
Reagan Memorial Tollway (I-88)
Windsor Drive Bridge Project
Construction Update (2/4/22)
The new Windsor Drive Bridge carrying traffic over the ramps connecting the Reagan Memorial Tollway (I-88) and the Tri-State Tollway (I-294) is now open to traffic.
Reconstruction of the Windsor Drive Bridge is being done in coordination with Oak Brook’s work to rebuild and widen Windsor Drive. Details on Oak Brook's Windsor Drive Widening and Beautification Project can be found on its website.
Customer Impacts
Lane closures and traffic shifts on Windsor Drive and the Tollway ramps will be necessary to provide a work zone to safely accommodate traffic and construction.
Electronic message signs and construction signage will be put in place in advance to alert drivers to scheduled lane closures, traffic patterns and work zone speed limits.
During construction, traffic on the Windsor Drive Bridge will be reduced. Because the Windsor Drive Bridge is a two-lane bridge, only one lane will be available to traffic during the first phase of construction. Traffic signals will be used to control access and maintain bi-directional travel on a single open lane in order to keep the bridge open during construction. During the second phase of construction, the work zone will be adjusted to allow for one open lane in each direction.
Purpose
The reconstruction of the Windsor Drive Bridge will maintain this portion of Windsor Drive in a state of good repair and support work by the Village of Oak Brook to improve the frequently congested area and allow drivers to travel more safely, reliably and efficiently. This portion of Windsor Drive carries some of the heaviest volumes of passenger and truck freight traffic in the Village of Oak Brook. Currently, the Village of Oak Brook regularly experiences congestion and travel time delays in traffic.
Sustainability
The Tollway is committed to building green and minimizing the environmental impact of construction by reducing, recycling and reusing materials. In addition to reducing the cost of this work, reuse of these materials reduces the need for virgin asphalt materials and reduces energy consumption, greenhouse gases and the volume of material that would otherwise be sent to landfills.
Work Zone Safety
The Illinois Tollway is committed to ensuring that both the Reagan Memorial Tollway (I-88) and Windsor Drive remain safe for both drivers and workers during construction, which is part of the agency’s overall commitment to roadway safety.
Work zone speed limits will also be in place on ramps and local crossroad bridges.
