I-355 Roadway Widening
Veterans Memorial Tollway (I-355)
The Illinois Tollway is widening a 2-mile segment of the Veterans Memorial Tollway (I-355) between Butterfield Road (Illinois Route 56) and Roosevelt Road (Illinois Route 38) to improve travel and provide congestion relief. The work will also include repairs to the existing roadway and bridges.
Construction Update (4/15/19)
Hill Avenue Bridge is closed to traffic through Friday, April 19. A detour is posted routing traffic to Crescent Boulevard and Park Boulevard.
Once work is complete at Hill Avenue, the Crescent Boulevard Bridge is scheduled to close for a week and a detour will be posted routing traffic to Riford Road and Saint Charles Road.
At I-55, traffic is shifted on the ramps connecting southbound I-355 to I-55 and on the ramp connecting northbound I-355 to northbound I-55 for repair work. Traffic is scheduled to stay in this configuration into May.
In addition, off-peak closures will be scheduled as needed. Please check the Daily Construction Alert for up-to-date closure information.
The widening of I-355 in this area will improve continuity of travel. The improvements will improve mobility and help reduce travel times.
The Tollway is committed to “Building Green” and minimizing the environmental impact of construction by reducing, recycling and reusing materials.
