Text Messaging Alerts

About

The Illinois Tollway’s SMS text messaging for I-PASS and Pay By Plate ensures customers quickly receive important account information.

Notifications

I-PASS account holders signed up to receive text notifications will receive text messages for the following:

  • Account Low or Negative Balance: Account hits low/negative balance threshold as defined by custom ‘Low-Balance Level’ as set by the I-PASS user.

I-PASS account holders and Pay By Plate service participants signed up to receive text notifications will receive text messages for the following:

  • Credit Card on Account Expired: Credit card on file expired in the previous month. Credit card companies provide us this information on the first of each month. 
  • Credit Card on File Removed: Credit card on file removed from auto-replenishment either because it has been declined three times in a row or because the credit card issues has notified us that the card is not valid.
  • Credit Card on File Declined: Credit card on file declined

Important Message

SMS messages from the Tollway will never request personal or credit card info. Securely log in to your Pay By Plate service or I-PASS account to update account information.

Notification Frequency

One notification will be provided for each of the notifications listed. Unless explicitly mentioned, notifications will be provided between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. CT the day following the event occurring,

Enrolling in the SMS Program

In order to enroll, you need to have a valid mobile phone number on file within your I-PASS account or Pay By Plate service.

Log in to your account here and opt in by adding your mobile number and checking the box to receive text messages.

If you have already attempted to enroll but not received a message from AT&T, please check to be sure the mobile number is accurate. If you have previously un-enrolled, text "IN" to 48407 to re-enroll.

  8. Third parties can send SMS text messages disguised as alerts from the Illinois Tollway; therefore, you are urged to independently verify the authenticity of any message that you receive.
  9. Wireless carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.
