H.E.L.P. Trucks Get New Look, New Tracker

What's now red and white and driving all over the Tollway? New Highway Emergency Lane Patrol (H.E.L.P.) trucks!

The updated H.E.L.P. trucks provide increased visibility on the road to enhance safety and help the service to customers stand out.

In 2016, the Tollway's 12 H.E.L.P. trucks patrolled more than 1.2 million miles and helped more than 30,000 customers who dialed *999 for assistance on the roadway.

What customers are saying

About the H.E.L.P. Truck Tracker

The new H.E.L.P. Truck Tracker is available on the Tollway's website.

Help is on the way
This service helps drivers who have dialed *999 for roadway assistance identify where the trucks are along the road.

H.E.L.P. trucks are identified by arrows during hours of operation, Monday - Friday from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. Arrows indicate direction of travel and a pop-up text box identifies roadway and nearest mile marker.

The new online service is in beta form while the Tollway tests the service and captures customer feedback.

The H.E.L.P. Program is partially funded by an exclusive sponsorship with State Farm. Drivers do not need to be State Farm customers to receive service from Illinois Tollway H.E.L.P. trucks.

SmartRoad graphicScheduled to go live this summer, the Tollway's new SmartRoad on the Jane Addams Memorial Tollway (I-90) will use the latest technologies to make the roadway safer and more efficient for drivers.

SmartRoad over-the-road signage is located every half mile between Barrington Road and the Kennedy Expressway and communicates real-time information to drivers. This digital signage includes travel times, traffic incident advisories, lane closure and traffic pattern changes, as well as the ability for Pace buses to drive in the new Flex Lanes.

SAFE DRIVING

Review the Rules of the Road
Drop It and Drive banner   Move Over banner

April is Distracted Driving Month. Increase safety and reduce the chance for accidents on the road by putting away your handheld device while you are behind the wheel.

From 2011 to 2016, more than 7,000 crashes occurred in Illinois due to some form of driver distraction involving a cellphone and 43 of these crashes were fatal.

Remember, "Drop it and Drive". It's the law.

In an effort to protect first responders, the “Move Over Law" requires that motorists change lanes when approaching a stationary emergency vehicle, with emergency lights activated. If changing lanes would not be safe or possible, motorists are required to slow down and proceed with caution when passing the emergency vehicle.

This law also applies to any vehicle on the side of the road with hazard lights activated. If you see flashing lights ahead, please move over or slow down.
